Jimmy Eat World is one of those rare albums where you never have to reach for the skip button. In the opening lines of the song "Sweetness", lead singer Jim Adkins states "if you’re listening, sing it back to me." However, with its infectious chorus and bursting guitars, that isn’t much of a challenge. Although "Sweetness" has been a fan favorite since it leaked on to Napster some time ago, it had been previously unavailable on any album outside of a Japanese version of their singles compilation.
Working again with producer Mark Trombino, Jimmy Eat World have created their most mainstream album to date. In contrast to their experimental 1999 release Clarity, this record features a number of radio friendly songs including the album’s first single "Bleed American" which is currently in rotation at rock stations everywhere.
Other songs which you might eventually hear blaring out of car stereos include "Get it Faster" and "If You Don’t, Don’t" which are both songs about figuring out where you stand in a relationship. Another notable track on this album is the ballad "Hear You Me" which discusses the loss of a loved one and showcases the band’s melodic side with its haunting vocals and heartfelt lyrics.
Along with eleven amazing tracks, the purchase of Jimmy Eat World also enables you to access an exclusive website where you can download videos, read articles, and learn more about Jimmy Eat World. Overall, this is an exceptional record which illustrates the band’s growth as musicians and writers and would be an excellent addition to any CD collection.
