Saliva
Every Six Seconds
(Island Records)
By: Jeff Leisawitz - ModernRock.com Any meathead with an electric guitar, a distortion pedal and a decent amp can bust out some power chords that sound like modern metal music. Big deal. It takes songcraft, balls and a burning soul to convert volume into power. It's a lesson many bands will never learn. And some know instinctively.
Saliva, a kick ass powerhouse quintet from Memphis, caught the fire on the very first day all the players came together. When all five guys plugged in their instruments they had only one thing on their minds— rockin' the world.
Within a few weeks of their first rehearsal the band entered a Grammy showcase competition and landed at the top of the pile in New York City. Then the boys released their very own indie disc. The Memphis market went nuts for their hometown heroes. The CD sold a cool ten thousand copies, no easy feat for a local outfit.
These days, with the release of their major label debut, Every Six Seconds, those numbers seem like small beans. The first single, "Your Disease," is all over radio all over the country. True to the group's megawatt sound, the single bucks and kicks with a restless energy that refuses to let go.
On stellar tracks like "Lackluster," "After Me," and "Click Click Boom" singer Josey Scott tears into the soundwaves like a rabid dog. Metal guitars fuse with sublime hip hop elements, screaming riffs and tag team guitar rhythms. The result is a brutal show of force that has been known to incite mosh pits around the nation.
Every Six Seconds is a volcanic major label debut. The band's independent spirit and raw aggression fuse with the molten beats and street smart attitude. This is modern metal at its finest. This is Saliva.
