And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead

Don't be put off by the unwieldy name; Trail of Dead aren't out for blood, they just want to mess you up a bit. The band's hard-hitting sound, a purposefully over-the-top mixture of punk, goth, thrash, and Sonic Youth-style avant rock, is just jarring enough to make you stand up and take notice of the collective angst being vented, but just accessible enough to appeal to those whose ears have been realigned by years of high volume.

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead was formed in late 1994 by singers/guitarists/drummers Jason Reece and Conrad Keely, longtime friends who originally met in Hawaii before both settled in the perennial indie hotbed of Olympia, WA (where Reece fronted the notorious Mukilteo Fairies). Upon relocating together to Austin, TX, the duo played their first shows as You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, eventually adding both the conjunction and the ellipsis as well as recruiting guitarist Kevin Allen and bassist/sampler Neil Busch. For the better part of a decade, they were making grandiose, challenging and slightly pretentious music with little to no fanfare. That all changed when they joined Interscope and released 2002's Source Tags & Codes. Now with their new album Worlds Apart, they're taking aim at their competitors — and gunning for world domination.

...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead "When I was writing the album and I was stuck for inspiration, I would turn on 101X [Austin's alternative rock radio station] and listen to how bad the music was," said frontman Conrad Keely. "It was really inspiring to listen to Staind or Puddle of Mudd and AFI. They gave me an idea of how I didn't want this album to sound."

... and you will know us by the Trail of Dead’s new album Worlds Apart hits stores January 25th on Interscope records.

(***Neil has since been replaced on bass by Danny Wood of Austin band the Rise. Doni Schroader of Nashville's beloved Forget Cassettes has been added as a second drummer/percussionist. They both fit in perfectly.***)
