Linkin Park
Reanimation
(Warner Brothers)
By: Jeff Leisawitz - ModernRock.com After the stunning success of Linkin Park's debut disc, Hybrid Theory, the guys hit the road for a series of never-ending tours that logged tens of thousands of miles. Instead of diving right back into the studio to record a slew of new songs, the band chose to slide the tracks to some of the world's hottest re-mix producers and vocalists. The result is fifteen amazing re-mixes and several megabytes of multi-media content collectively known as Reanimation.
After the quiet strings of "Opening," the Park's music begins to twist and blister in a thousand different ways— new beats, new melodies, new singers, new sounds.
Motion Man raps up a storm on "ENTH E ND" shouting his name until the timer runs out. Cool enough, but ego posturing isn't the norm here. This record is a team effort and just about everyone knows it.
World class producer Alchemist cuts some smokin' beats on "FRGT/10" before Mickey P highlights the vocal moves of Kelli Ali on the trippin' track, "MY
Some serious superstar singers step up to the mic on this disc's best cuts. Producers The Humble Brothers harness the fiery swell of Korn's Jonathan Davis into a swirling synthscape rhythm on "1STP KLOSR." On this one, Davis' semi-restrained lyrical inventions go deep into a sort of tortured dreamland.
Keeping up with Davis is no task, but Aaron Lewis of Staind and producer Mike Shinoda fuse their talents to create a re-mix masterpiece. Word on the street has it that Lewis actually recorded the vocals for this track in between cigarettes on a tour bus on the Family Values tour.
Linkin Park's Reanimation is currently the fastest selling re-mix album of all time. It is also an amazing work of technological invention, digital magic and cross pollination. With so much talent working in studios across the globe it's no wonder that this disc is making waves at the top of the charts.
