Nonpoint
Development
(MCA Records)
By: Paul Thompson - ModernRock.com Rock stations are raving about Nonpoint's sophomore
effort with MCA Records, and for good reason. Development
is hard driving, yet comfortable and easy to listen to. It's also one of
the best hard rock albums I've heard in a long time. The strong guitar, drumbeats and vocals almost always have a refined,
well-practiced sound. Development highlights the rapid growth
of the band and proves that Nonpoint can hold their own with some of
hard rock's heavyweights. The band has always maintained a heavy touring schedule, and this summer is no exception. Following the "LocoBazooka" tour with Sevendust
and Filter, Nonpoint has recently joined the Sprite Liquid Mix tour, and it
seems the only question now is if they can maintain their blazing hot pace.
"Your Signs", the first single on Development, has
received air play and is on its way to becoming a smash hit.
The song has strong, clear vocals from Elias Soriano, and
is complimented by solid instrumentals. It also has an unbelievably
infectious beat that could captivate any audience.
Another song that beckons heavy for radio airplay is
"My Own Sake". This song is more mainstream modern rock
than some of the other tracks on the CD, although
it still maintains its edge. The chorus is
contagious and could catapult the song to huge commercial
success. Soriano bellows out the lyrics "I move this
fast/and I make mistakes/for my own sake/for my own
sake. "Any Advice" is a mellower rock ballad that showcases
the diversity and maturity of the band. It takes a step
back and reminds the listener that these guys have talent outside
of the mosh pit.
It's nice when a band catches you off guard and impresses with
its diverse rock and powerful lyrics. Every member of the
band does their part admirably and they mesh
together very well. Development is a break out party
for Nonpoint, and it could put them in the spotlight as the next mega
rock band. It shows what hard rock can become if it is taken in the right
direction. In closing, here a few names you will likely be hearing more
about in the future: Elias Soriano. Robb Rivera. Andrew Goldman. KB.
Nonpoint.
