By: Jeff Leisawitz - ModernRock.com I'll be honest. I've never even heard of the TV show called Roswell. But it hardly matters. The soundtrack is an impressive collection of remixes, album tracks and import-only cuts from some of the most talented artists and producers out there today.
In case you haven't clued in enough to pick up Dido's delicious debut, this disc starts off with "Here With Me." It's a great intro. Dido also pulls up the back end with the "Chillin' With the Family Mix" of the very same song.
Speaking of mind blowing remixes, Sarah McLachlan surfaces for a tune. "Fear (Hybrid's Super Collider Mix- Edit)" trips right into another world with deep beats and designer synth articulations. Both of these tracks set the tone for much of the music here. The electronic/ acoustic songwriting, thick, dark loops and sweet melancholy comprise the bulk of the sounds you'll find on this CD.
The New York based band Ivy antes up the slippery moves of "Edge of the Ocean (Duotone Mix)" before Coldplay digs into the vault with "Brothers and Sisters." Ash rocks with "Shining Light," an import-only track. Then the Travis tune, "More Than Us," mellows the vibe.
Although Sheryl Crow recycles a song from her debut, the combination of Zero 7's "Destiny," the Doves' exclusive cover of the Beatles' "Blackbird," and Sense Field's "Save Yourself" (which is Roswell's first official single) all make this one of the most impressive soundtracks in quite awhile.
Whether or not you spend your time wasting away in front of the boob tube, the music on Roswell is a treasure chest collection with some very cool, very obscure recordings. So feel free to dig through the bins for hours on end or just tune in to this disc. And please, do yourself a favor, kill your TV and crank up the stereo.
