Texas Terri and The Stiff Ones

By: Ryan Dupuis - ModernRock.com

"I’ll save all the talking for after the show you f*ckers" the perfect punk introduction to the crowd compliments of one Mrs. Texas Terri.

Billed as their last US show before their European tour, one would anticipate greatness. Silverlake LA’s rock lounge, The Garage, would be the perfect club to house such punk madness. The punk crowd, complete with an ABC television cameraman, was ready for the hype known as Texas Terri and The Stiff Ones.

The first couple numbers were somewhat forgettable and the crowd seemed more into their Coronas. Three songs in would find the show kick-started with Terri stripping down to her bra, doused in water, and begging for attention. With her smeared makeup and hands on mike she was ready to rock and started to show her band's strengths.

Two-minute punk rock songs on topics ranging from sex and drugs to you guessed it more sex and more drugs would be the menu for the evening. Texas Terri’s sound could be defined as L7 meets The Stooges in a punk paint by the numbers way.

While her lyrics aren’t going to win any Pulitzer Prize, this is punk rock and what more do you want anyway, you sellout. Show highlight was a song Headcase, which had more structure than the rest. Headcase finds Terri screaming at the crowd "You say I’m a headcase, headcase.... first place, first place....in the rat race, rat race."

The Stiff Ones definitely know how to man their instruments though they pretty much played background to the Texas Terri Experience.

Texas Terri and The Stiff Ones provided a solid set, sort of like Nashville Pussy without the fire breathing and amazon woman. Check ‘em out if they hit your town.
